The Jewish Education Project Microgrants

Our 2020-2021 Microgrants seek to support Thriving in Jewish Education. We are looking for innovative educational experiences in the following areas*:

• Thriving Models in Jewish Education
  
  How are you helping your learners thrive? Thinking creatively about education today and how we support our families to be their best selves, create deep relationships, feel a sense of accomplishment, and engage with their community.  
  
   

• Racial Justice
  
  Exploring racial justice through a Jewish lens by looking at it through one of the following four lenses.

  • Knowing: What are the structures that help learners explore challenging content while cultivating respectful and inclusive discourse
  • Believing: Exploring our own experiences with race and otherness
  • Doing: What we do to send inclusive messages, create inclusive spaces, etc.
  • Belonging: How do we help create a sense of belonging or thriving amongst Jews of color within our own institutions and beyond
    
    
    
     
• Digital Engagement
  
  Creating innovative and impactful digital engagement. Developing new ways to use technology to foster community at a time when the opportunity for gathering is not a given.
  
  
  
   
• Intergenerational Engagement
  
  Implementing new ways to support the older generations in our communities who might feel more isolated during this time. Working to empower multiple generations in a family to engage with Jewish education in creative ways.
  
   

• Gender Equity
  
  Creating opportunities to promote fairness, equality, and safety for all genders.  Seeking to build skills among staff, create awareness and a welcoming environment among learners, and/or address gender-related issues in Jewish life.
  
   

• Mental Health
  
  Supporting all ages as we individually and communally struggle with the aftershocks of COVID-19 and other stressors. Ideas that support mental health, wellness, and self-care.

GRANT APPLICATIONS WERE ARE DUE IN FULL BY 12 NOON ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2020.

Funding:

You may apply for a microgrant between $500 and $2,500. 

Eligibility:

• Your organization must have 501(c) 3 status

• Your organization must work within our catchment area of New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County

• Your experience(s) must target families and/or learners within the range of birth to high school

When should/must the educational experience(s) occur?

All experiences must be completed by June 30, 2021. Programs may begin prior to the awarding of microgrants, however, they must be ongoing experiences with additional programs throughout the remainder of the year.

What happens after receiving a grant?

You can start moving your thoughts to action!  You will be matched with a coach from The Jewish Education Project with expertise in your educational experience content area and/or target population. There will be two coaching sessions with your coach and other grantees in January and March 2021. 

At the conclusion of your experience, you are required to submit documentation of your experience (photos, flyers, anecdotes from participants, etc), a completed final budget, and a post-experience survey.

What role do coaches play in the process?

Your coach will be with you throughout the process, routinely checking in on progress and simply to offer advice.

When can I expect a response?

Applicants will be notified in late November 2020.

How does the payment process work?

Microgrants are paid to the organization or fiscal sponsor and are distributed via ACH payment or check on the condition that the experience is complete and all required materials have been submitted.  

Am I eligible for a Microgrant if my organization is located in Rockland County?

Unfortunately, you are not eligible. Only organizations in New York City, Westchester, and Long Island are eligible to receive a microgrant.
