Amram Altzman, 2022 Young Pioneers Award Recipient

Amram Altzman (he/him) is the Associate Director of Youth Programs at Keshet, where works to make empowering, liberatory spaces for LGBTQ Jewish teens and young adults across the country. Previously he worked as a contributing writer for New Voices Magazine and as a member of the community education staff at Brandeis Precollege Programs. He brings a passion for justice, Torah, writing, and the social sciences to his work as an educator and organizer. A New York native, Amram lives in upper Manhattan with his husband Jamie and their two cats, Perle and Herschel. He likes to live his life with an unironic, unwavering love of cats, kale, coffee, and pop music.

From the recipient: "Through the Jewish Education Project, I've met colleagues from all over the New York City area which has helped me grow and deepen my work as an educator in ways I never thought possible. I'm honored to receive this award in recognition of the work I've done so far, and I'm excited to continue to deepen my work and grateful for the ways that The Jewish Education Project has helped me get to this point -- and am excited to continue to grow my work!"

Reflection from a colleague: "Ami's receipt of the Robert M. Sherman Young Pioneers Award fills our entire Keshet community with pride. His unwavering commitment to centering and empowering LGBTQ+ Jewish youth, in spite of innumerable obstacles--both pandemic-related and not--elevates our work everyday and changes countless young lives. " Jaimie H. Krass, Director of Youth Programs, Keshet
