The Five Towns Early Learning Center crafted a vision for their outdoor space 8 years ago with the input of the teachers and children. The design and activities that take shape are based on the theory that imaginative play develops skills such as creativity and flexibility, as well as social skills such as negotiation, collaboration and empathy. We will meet with the school’s director and teachers, and spend some time observing children at play. Time will be reserved for questions and discussion.

Staff

Pepper Robinson has been working with young children for over 40 years.  Pepper came to Five Towns Early Learning Center to serve as Director in 2004. During her time at the Center, she led the school through the process of becoming a nationally certified “Nature Explore Classroom”, a process that involved a major playground renovation. The following year Pepper guided the Center through a major building project - creating a new and fresh façade which prepared the Center for the 21st century.

A life-long early childhood teacher and life-long educator, Pepper has taught Early Childhood classes at CUNY and has been a CDA instructor for CCC of Nassau for 20 years. She mentors her staff and encourages her staff to continue their education. With this in mind she and her Board have created a scholarship fund for the teachers. It is her goal that the Five Towns Early Learning Center be a model of a quality early learning environment for young children.  Pepper‘s dream and vision is that the lives of all who walk through the Center’s doors are enriched.

This visit was originally scheduled for April 4, 2017 and has been rescheduled for May 25, 2017 due to inclement weather.
